Dr. Thom Brewer
B.S., New York University, 2012
Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, 2017
Thom grew up in Seattle, WA, before moving across the country to New York for his undergraduate degree at NYU. There, he joined the lab of Professor Paramjit S. Arora and worked on oxopiperazine-based α-helix surface mimetics. After completing his undergraduate studies, Thom hopped coasts again and conducted his doctoral research with Professor Christopher Chang at UC Berkeley, where his work focused on reaction-based detection of small-molecule analytes in biological systems using fluorescence-based probes. Thom completed his Ph. D. in 2017, and, deciding he needed to coast-swap one more time, joined the MacMillan group at Princeton University as a postdoctoral research associate. Outside of lab, Thom enjoys cooking, craft beers & liquors, hiking, snowboarding, karaoke, escape rooms, and board games.
- Thom’s favorite weather is overcast and 60 degrees.
- Thom is an avid fan of drag performers and RuPaul’s Drag Race.
- Thom loves escape rooms, and makes a point of seeking them out when he visits new places. On a recent trip to Vancouver, he did 5 of them!
