Robert grew up in Wheaton, Illinois and studied biochemistry at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. After working in Dr. Huimin Zhao’s laboratory discovering natural products from cryptic fungal gene clusters, he joined Dr. Martin Burke’s research group. In the Burke group, he synthesized a library of MIDA ligand derivatives to improve the scope of the iterative cross coupling platform. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, practicing his saxophone, playing tennis, running, and eating chocolate.
- In 2015, Robert marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the University of Illinois Marching Illini.
- Robert won a hula-hooping contest his senior year of high school during Homecoming week.
- After graduating from UIUC, Robert went on a solo backpacking trip through Europe for five weeks.
