Dr. Xiaheng Zhang

Xiaheng was born in Zhejiang Province, China. After obtaining his B. Sc. at Sichuan University in 2009, he moved to Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemisty to pursue his Ph.D. degree in Professor Biao Yu’s lab. His Ph.D. work was focused on the total synthesis of complex natural glycoconjugates. He joined the MacMillan group in 2015 as a post-doc, his research work focused on the development of new cross-coupling methods using metallaphotoredox catalysis. In his spare time, Xiaheng likes playing basketball and football, singing, and traveling.

Fun Facts
  • His nickname was “Tim Duncan” when he was in high school as he loves basketball very much.
  • Xiaheng once rode a bicycle 120 miles around the biggest island near Shanghai in one day.
  • Xiaheng did not drink when he was at SIOC, but he became a big fan of American beers and now enjoys tasting all kinds of beers in the U.S.
